Advantage and belief of KUFU-AN

You can count on KUFU-AN for Japanese design products
Since our foundation in 1933, we have built trust with corporations in the business of bridal bedclothes, Japanese cushions, and short split curtains.
The mission of our company is to pass high-quality Japanese Yuzen dyed products and artisanship down the generations, and we take great pride in this work.
We also make products designed by famous designers (Hanae Mori, Chiyo Uno, and Keisuke Serizawa) and we engage in product development in various fields.
We are currently making products with attractive Japanese designs from Kyoto to meet changing needs. You can count on us for Japanese design products.
Please feel free to contact us with inquiries and requests.

Artisans create each product by hand.
We can handle a complicated order of a product that cannot be made in large volume by machine.
An artisan hand-paints individual products with a persimmon juice-dyeing treatment. So, no two are ever the same.
Each product is also sewn by hand. It is a belief of KUFU-AN to create a good product carefully through many processes.

Using high-quality cloth for our products
Our weaving manufacturers use designated strings and density of weaving to produce a tough and meaty cloth with less shrinkage in washing.
To produce soft texture in dyed cloths, we use special scouring to remove starch after weaving. The cloths are carefully dried without tension to meet our ideal vision.
Please touch our cloths, you will love the feel for a long time.

Uncompromising approach to Japanese cushions
中綿 Our Japanese cushions with a soft cotton cover provide comfortable texture and warmth, which fits the lifestyle of Japanese people.
We use a mixture of well-selected 90% cotton and 10% polyester as padding. This ratio gives a sufficient volume with less bulk reduction. When sitting on our Japanese cushion, you will feel appropriate bounce. We use a thin urethane layer to reduce the feeling of the hardness of floor.
Our goal is to produce Japanese cushions that prevent numbness. Many people have problems with their legs and we create Japanese cushions that are appropriate for these people.

Quality/inventory control
We keep many fast-selling products in stock, so we can deliver as soon as an order is made.
For products not in stock or those in specific sizes, we have cloth in stock to allow prompt production of the product after receiving an order. We work hard every day to provide our products to our customers immediately.
We also perform a close visual inspection of each product before delivery. We commission an exclusive garment factory to sew our Japanese cushion covers. At the factory studio, quality control is performed by inspection of sewing errors and recording the results of needle checks. You do not need to worry about the quality of our products.

Inherited Japanese traditional techniques

Yuzen dyeing
作業 In Yuzen dyeing, an artisan carefully uses a spatula to adhere each color paste to a white cloth placed on a hand plate, which is as large as a Japanese cushion. This hand-working produces rich and beautiful colors, which cannot be produced by machines.
Next, the cloth is steamed for fixing of colors and then washed with water to remove excess color paste. We invite you to enjoy the techniques of Yuzen dyeing in Kyoto.

Persimmon juice-dyeing
作業 Persimmon juice-dyed cloths have been superior in durability and microbicidal/insecticidal effects since antient times, and are used for coarse oilpaper umbrellas, reinforcement of fishing nets, and sake bags.
One of the important processes is color development with sun-drying. Cloths are exposed to sunlight on fine days for about 3 weeks, and dyeing and drying are repeated several times for color development.
There is a difference in contrast between rolls of cloth because dyeing is performed by hand for each roll of cloth.
The dyed color changes over 1 or 2 years to a rich and traditional color blown with time. Enjoy the color unevenness as a nuanced taste, which differs from uniform modern products.
We use the possibilities of persimmon juice-dyeing to meet the modern sensibility.

Japanese original indigo dyeing
Japanese original indigo dyeing developed as a necessity for the daily life of Japanese people, an agricultural people, because of its medicinal virtues, and insecticidal, detoxification, and thermal effects. This created a Japanese indigo dyeing culture with many dyeing methods.
In recent years, there has been increased interest in traditional Japanese indigo color, and thus we produce new expressions that include modern sensibility in clothing and housing.
Japanese original indigo shows a marvelous sensitivity to enable Japanese people to dress nicely and express their personality, as the color enhances the appearance of Japanese people.

Black (Sumi-iro) dyeing
We invite you to enjoy our black dyeing as rich "Japanese black," although India ink shows various colors with different nuances.
Expressed as "five colors of ink," there are tones in Japanese black (Sumi-iro): Sho, Nou, Ju, Tan, and Sei, in order of darkness of color. These colors are preferred based on the idea of Zen and the spread of Suiboku-ga (ink painting) instead of conventional color paintings. Sumi-iro painting is single color painting without use of other colors.
Sumi-iro is considered spiritually to have 5 different colors and is deeply integrated into Japanese life culture and aesthetic feeling as Zen spirit.
